The Merit School Of Music, where she originally refined her skills as a pianist, Alexis appeared at “Play On,” had a benefit fundraiser held at the Chicago City Winery. In this clip from WGN TV, she performed her self-penned “The Blues In Tyne,” a homage to jazz legend McCoy Tyner and a track on her 2017 album “Southside Sounds.”

In a recent article highlighting the prominent Detroit women, living and deceased, who made a contribution to the world of music, Billboard magazine used the occasion of the Detroit Jazz Festival to mark the legacy of the late Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin, as well as jazz pianist, organist, harpist and composer Alice Coltrane, contemporary jazz violin virtuoso Regina Carter (cousin of tenor saxophone wizard James Carter), and pianist Alexis Lombre.

When people think of Chicago’s Southside, they typically reference only violence and tragedy, which too often overshadows its beautiful cultural history. This collection of original compositions reflects my attempt to pay homage to this lively artistic, cultural heritage along with some of Chicago’s best musicians.

I had the amazing time performing at the Detroit Jazz Festival on Saturday with trumpeter John Douglas and his Quartet and then I returned on Sunday to perform as the Alexis Lombre Quintet
